Pick up the trail

A group project is due Friday. It is Tuesday and nobody has started. You:
Announce that you'll take the hard half, and dare anyone to match you.
Build a plan so obvious that doing your part is easier than arguing with it.
Open a shared doc, message everyone kindly, and quietly cover the gaps.
Disappear into the research and come back with more than anyone asked for.
You find out a friend has been lying to you about something small. You:
Say it out loud, today, even though it will make dinner strange.
Say nothing, and start watching for whether it's a pattern.
Wonder what would make a person lie about that, then ask them gently.
Work out exactly why the lie was told before deciding whether it matters.
Someone hands you the key to a room you were told not to enter. You:
Go in. Obviously. You can apologise to somebody afterwards.
Find out what's in there from someone else first, then decide.
Keep the key. Having it is worth more than using it.
Hand it back. Whoever locked that door had their reasons.
It is 2am and you are still awake because:
You are deep in something completely useless and completely wonderful.
You are replaying an argument and rewriting your side of it, better.
Someone is still typing, and you are not going to be the one who logs off.
You are working out where you want to be in five years, and how.
Pick the compliment that would actually land:
"That happened because of you."
"Nobody else notices things the way you do."
"Everyone relaxes a bit when you walk in."
"You were three steps ahead the whole time."
A rule where you work or study is plainly, pointlessly stupid. You:
Break it where everyone can see, and take whatever comes.
Follow it, and find the gap in it that nobody thought to write down.
Read the whole policy until you understand why it was ever written.
Follow it, because the person who'd get in trouble for breaking it isn't you.
Your ideal Saturday has you:
Somewhere you've never been, mildly lost, with no plan at all.
In one long conversation that keeps going somewhere stranger.
Feeding six people who all, for different reasons, needed feeding.
Alone, making real progress on something that belongs to you.
You are told you get remembered for exactly one thing. You pick:
The time you stood up when nobody else was going to.
Something you worked out that went on outliving you.
The people who got through it because you stayed.
The thing you built, with your name still on it.
Someone takes a shot at your friend in the group chat. You:
Reply immediately, in the chat, where everyone can see it.
Screenshot it, say nothing, and remember it for a long time.
Message your friend first to check they're all right.
Ask the person, genuinely, what they actually meant by that.
The thing you are quietly most afraid of:
Finding out you were never as brave as you let people think.
Being the last one in the room to understand something.
Being left behind by people you would never have left.
Turning out ordinary, and nobody thinking to mention it.
